Where can I write HTML?
Since HTML codes are written in ASCII text, HTML files can be written in any text editor such as notepad.

So despite what you have heard, you really don't need any special expensive software to start learning and creating your own HTML pages. I used notepad in the beginning, since I already had it and I wanted to really understand what I was doing right and wrong. Although once I started to feel comfortable enough with the language I discovered the convenience and power of using an HTML editor. There are many Web authoring tools on the market, my favorites are Allaire's Homesite for Windows or BBedit for the Mac. I try to avoid WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) programs like Microsoft's FrontPage or Adobe's PageMill, since they insert funky code onto your pages that can add unnecessary weight or cause errors when viewed in different browsers.
